Big names fight it out in WSOP

The big names are in battle at the 2010 World Series of Poker main event and there are just 574 players still in contention. Two online pros who have positioned themselves for the top spot are Phil Galfond and Johnny Chan. Pro Galfond is better known to online players by his handle “OMGClayAiken,” he sits in 5th place on the leader-board and is one of the most successful online poker pros in the short history in the age of online poker. He is also the owner and instructor at BlueFirePoker.com, and already has a WSOP bracelet to his credit.

Chan is one of the most recognizable poker players in the world  thanks to his 10 WSOP bracelets, 2 Main Event Championships, and of course his immortalization in the movie “Rounders”. Lying in 13th place overall, Chan is very near the top of the leader-board, and has been amongst the chip leaders throughout the tournament. Winning his 3rd Main Event would be one hell of a way to tie Phil Hellmuth for most bracelets all-time with 11.

The poker pro who retired at 24

Unlikely as it may seem to most people a poker star, Peter Eastgate, winner of the 2008 World Series, is calling it a day as a professional. The Danish poker player has cut his ties with PokerStars and going off to do something else. Most famous for his win in the 2008 WSOP continued his winning ways with cash of $1 million, which included a second place at the EPT London.

He is quoted as saying, “It was never my goal to spend the rest of my life as a professional poker player. My goal was to become financially independent. I have seen some amazing places and met many new people; it has been a great experience. I have decided now is the time to find out what I want to do with the rest of my life.” Online poker makes it easy to have a varied, creative life and win chunks as well. Cash games and live tournaments can be played on evenings and weekends.  Eastgate will still play poker, but he shows you do not have to disappear into the game.

Reload Bonuses for Empty Accounts

Unfortunately, with any form of gambling the house can often win and leave gamblers needing to top up their accounts. When this happens a new deposit needs to be made to add more funds to the account; however, often there are no bonuses awarded to repeat customers.

Although reload bonuses are common in other forms of online gambling, such as poker and casino games like roulette, blackjack and online slots, in online betting shops they are increasingly rare. When they are offered, though, they are usually not added to accounts automatically like other varieties of free bets and instead the customer has to track down and use a special bonus code. Even with a bonus code to increase the reload deposit into their sports betting accounts, the free bets offered in these circumstances are often far less generous than those offered on an initial sign up deposit.

As online bookmakers do not allow individuals to hold multiple accounts, this means that a gambler whose account has run low cannot open up a new one with their existing bookmaker. Because of this, the best way to get the highest value from free bets is to open up a new sports betting account with another online gambling site. This would mean that customers who need to reload their online sports betting accounts are once again eligible for the free bets which are given as a sign up bonus.

The Return of Jennifer “Jennicide” Leigh

The current series of WSOP has seen the return of a very familiar blonde sitting at the tables in the form of Jennifer “Jennicide” Leigh who has been largely missing from the poker scene for the past two years, she is returning to poker, and by the looks of her Day 1 stack of 85,425, she is looking to make a deep run in the 2010 WSOP.

One of online poker’s first cult-like obsessions, Leigh burst onto the scene shortly after the online poker boom was ignited in 2004 and was quickly playing the highest stakes limit-Hold’em cash games on the Web. Although Jennifer Leigh was not quite able to have a break-out performance on the live scene, her success reached its zenith in May 2008. In a number of interviews, Leigh discusses how burnt out she got playing poker, and that, combined with what she admitted was a terrible run online, compelled her to step away from the game that put her in the spotlight. There are many that will be following her progress with great interest.

Don’t Forget Your Bingo Etiquette

Most bingo players are very friendly and will be more than happy to help you if you have a problem. But remember that you’re playing in their hall, so here are a few tips that may assist you and stop you offending other players.

The most imperative rule to remember is to keep quiet as soon as the caller starts the balls rolling. Also, keep in mind that talking whilst the caller is speaking is a major distraction. This is an unwritten rule, but one that you would do well to remember.

You’ll also need to be on the lookout for lucky seats. If a regular player at the hall asks you to move, it would be polite for you to go along with this request.

If you’re not winning, do not take out your disappointment on the caller. Players who are losing have been known to shout at the caller and blame them. You have to remember that bingo is a game of chance, and no-one can be held responsible for you losing. If for some reason you can’t hear the caller or they are going too fast for you, ask them politely to speak louder or slower. If you still have a problem, speak to the manager.

Bingo games can move very quickly, and it will be hard, but think before you shout bingo. If you do call, it will alter the flow of the game and if you have called incorrectly, other players may have already spoilt their bingo cards and will not be able to continue.

Texas Hold’em Poker has Facebook Fans

If you are a fan of Facebook, maybe you have a Facebook page, you will probably be aware that Lady Gaga and President Barak Obama are currently fighting it out for the highest number of Facebook fans. The US president has 9.4 million Facebook fans but Lady GaGa has just overtaken him and currently has 9.9 million fans and is rapidly working her way up to the 10 million figure.

However that’s “small beer” when compared with an online poker site that has twice as many! The absolute highest, number one ranking Facebook page in terms of signed up fans is Zynga poker. The Texas Hold’em Poker page has20,234,958 fans and 140,489 YouTube subscribers. So forget the popularity battle between the president and the performer, online poker is the place to look.

Online poker sponsorship deals

Online Poker rooms sponsor poker professionals in a similar way large brands sponsor F1 racers or Premiership football teams. The poker professional is expected to promote their brand by wearing their branded apparel and being seen on television. In return, sponsored professionals receive free entries into tournaments, free play at their respective online poker site, and other perks.

Some examples of this are Shane Warne the famous Aussie cricketer who is sponsored by top online casino 888.com and a member of their WSOP team, Full Tilt has stars Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan and Mike Matusow. The stars become free agents when the deal comes to an end or is dissolved and this happened to David Williams; Poker Stars jumped in and offered him a deal to join them. He is one of the most successful poker players on the scene at the moment with almost $8 million in live tournament poker winnings. Williams will be making an appearance at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas.

Online gambling continues to grow

Football betting and sports betting have always been national pastimes, and gambling in general, despite the disapproval of some, seems to be built in to the human psyche.  Gaming sets have been found in ancient archaeological deposits and dice are often found amongst the pot shards of cities long since crumbled to dust.

But with technological advances running riot in recent decades, gambling has become incredibly sophisticated and its popularity has only increased as the familiar names from town centres, such as William Hill and Ladbrokes, have expanded into an online presence. Online gambling has in fact largely driven the recent huge explosion in Internet usage, and cutting-edge software has been developed often in response to the demanding requirements of keen Internet gamblers. As well as the high street names, many other websites have sprung up to compete for new customers, and with all the competition out there you can be sure of a huge welcome from whichever betting sites you choose to frequent.

Security software has never been more effective, with your personal and financial details as safe as houses, and probably safer than their printed equivalents. Download speeds have also been an important factor in Internet gambling’s increasing popularity, with the subtle nuances of the ‘real’ experience being reproduced electronically without any of the painful old delays und frustrations that attended dial-up connections.

As Internet gambling continues to improve, its popularity is sure to increase, and with most residences now having broadband and a PC it has never been more easy to have a flutter.
