For over a century Monte Carlo has been one of the most glamorous destinations in the world. The dazzling splendour of the French Riviera and the sophisticated lifestyle combined to ensure that tourists flocked here annually. Today the allure is still in existence, as millions visit Monte Carlo every year to admire the yachts and the cars, and to visit the iconic Monte Carlo Casino to take their chances with lady luck.
The casino in Monte Carlo is one of Monaco’s most popular tourist attractions. Charles Garnier, the architect who also designed the Paris Opera, was responsible for the creation of this incredibly beautiful building, a gem of the Belle Epoque. Construction started in 1858 and the gambling concession was granted to Francois Blanc.
Since 1898, the concession has been operated by the Societe des Bains de Mer, a public company, in which the principality’s government holds the largest share.
In 1910, a theatre was added to the building where ballet and operas are staged. The Grand Theatre de Monte Carlo is the home of Monaco’s ballet company.
A number of different games are played in the Monte Carlo casino. These include roulette, blackjack, stud poker, trente et quarante, baccarat, video poker, craps and slots.
Entry is 10 euros per person for the main gaming rooms with an added 10 euro supplement for the private rooms. You can play the slot machines without having to pay the entrance fee.
