Considering there are slight differences in the U.K. and N.Z. variations of the game, there can be some confusion for novice players who are not used to the fact that there are differences in the rules between countries. For example, the normal winning combinations are Lines, Two Lines, and Full Houses, but in the New Zealand format there is also something known as Three Lines, where three lines of numbers can be claimed. In addition, the U.K. also sees a common rule being that all Line games are followed directly by a Two Line game, which is then followed by a Full House game. And, in the National Bingo Game for the U.K., the only variation ever played is Full House, with the record payout being close to 1 million pounds.
Regardless of which type of game is being played, the last number called must be in the winning sequence, and a player must stop the game in time before the caller moves on to the next number or their win is invalidated. This is very similar to the way it is played in the U.S., with numbers being called out by the bingo caller and players marking the numbers off as they see them on their card. Once players have completed a Line, Two Lines, or otherwise, they are required to shout to the caller to signify a win, at which point an official member of the staff will come and check the claim. Most people choose to shout “Bingo!”, but there are a variety of words used.
